Cleared and restored several unused plots at the Edgewell town allotments in Prudhoe, removing overgrowth and bringing the areas back into a manageable, usable condition. These plots are now ready to be taken over and maintained properly, and it was great to chat with the other allotment holders while completing the work.

These allotment plots had been left unused, and had become completely overgrown with tall grasses, dock, brambles and self-seeded growth, with rubbish and old materials buried among it.
We cut the growth right back to ground level with brushcutters, cleared out the debris, and tidied the paths and edges between the plots, so the boundaries, hedges and greenhouses were visible again. Each plot was left clear and level enough for a new holder to start digging and planting straight away.
Work like this is often what makes the difference between a plot sitting empty and someone taking it on, as clearing years of overgrowth by hand is a daunting first job for a new allotment holder.

The Edgewell allotments sit on high ground in Prudhoe, with views out across the Tyne Valley. Allotments are a valued part of the town, and it was good to help bring these plots back into use for the local community.
